In a heartfelt ceremony, July 22,2024, the Colorado Independent School District School Board paid tribute to one of its most dedicated educators, Mrs. Frances Godwin, by naming a building in her honor. The newly christened Frances Godwin Center, adjacent to the new Colorado ISD Boardroom, stands as a testament to her 30-year career in education, 29 of which were spent shaping the lives of students within CISD.

Mrs. Godwin's journey in education began in 1941 when she started teaching in Pecos. The following year, she joined Colorado ISD, marking the start of a significant chapter in her life. Over the next few decades, she wore many hats, from teaching sophomore English to sponsoring the pep squad and serving as the librarian. Her dedication was unwavering, even when she temporarily stepped away from her career to support her husband during his service in the army.

Upon her return to Colorado ISD in 1962, Mrs. Godwin resumed her role as a librarian, a position she held until her retirement in 1987. Her commitment to her students and the school community was profound, leaving an indelible mark on generations of Colorado ISD students.

The dedication ceremony was a moment of reflection and gratitude, with Mrs. Godwin’s two daughters, fellow DKG members, colleagues, and community members gathering to celebrate Mrs. Godwin's legacy. The Frances Godwin Center will serve as a constant reminder of her impact and the enduring influence of dedicated educators on the lives of their students.

As the doors of the Frances Godwin Center open, they welcome a new era of learning and community engagement, all under the watchful eye of a beloved educator whose spirit continues to inspire.
