On August 26th, Colorado ISD proudly marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new baseball and softball fields. The event took place at 1137 Cherry Street and represents a major advancement in the district's long-awaited project. Gallagher Construction and Paragon Sports Constructors are spearheading the site preparations, setting the stage for a transformative enhancement to the district's athletic facilities.
The ceremony was a vibrant display of community spirit and dedication, featuring key figures from both Colorado ISD and the broader community. Present were the CISD Board of Trustees—Vice President Lilianna Ornelas, Secretary Veronica Boone, Trustees Ty Wood, John Martinez, Jamie Alvarez, Frank Martinez along with Superintendent Dr. Larry Polk Jr. and Assistant Superintendent Denise Farmer. Also in attendance were Director of Operations Robert Oliver, Director of Technology Bradly Graham, Director of CTE Rebecca Russell, Chief Financial Officer Jerri Kimball and her team, Lisa Flores and Regina Andrews, as well as CISD Principals Lorianne Toombs and Steven Komppa, and many members of our community family. Their collective presence powerfully demonstrated a steadfast commitment to advancing the district’s facilities and expanding educational and extracurricular opportunities, reinforcing a unified effort to drive our vision forward and strengthen community collaboration.
A highlight of the ceremony was the prominent display of the new fields' renderings, positioned in front of the ceremonial shovels. The turning of the soil was led by CISD leadership, with local dignitaries such as Mitchell County Judge Mike Redwine, Commissioner Jesse Munoz, and Sheriff Patrick Toombs joining in. Their participation underscored the broad support for the project, while City of Colorado City Councilman James Farquar's presence further symbolized the strong collaboration between educational and municipal leaders.
Adding a personal touch to the event, members of the Lady Wolves Softball team—A.J. Goodney, Bryanna Munoz, and Alexis Martinez—participated in the groundbreaking. Their involvement highlighted the direct benefits the new fields will bring to our student-athletes.
The groundbreaking ceremony was not just a celebration of the beginning of construction but a testament to the community's shared vision and commitment to the future of Colorado ISD. The new baseball and softball fields promise to enhance student experiences and strengthen community ties.
We look forward with great anticipation to the continued progress of this exciting project and the positive impact it will bring to our students and the entire community.
