​The Colorado Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees convened on March 10, 2025, to discuss various topics, including the recognition of outstanding educators, campus updates, construction progress, and financial matters.​

Teacher and Staff of the Month

The meeting commenced with acknowledgments of exceptional staff members:​

  • Colorado Elementary School: Rebecca Molina, a classroom aide in the 3-year-old class, was lauded for her dedication and positive attitude. Tiffany Martinez was honored for her outstanding work with life skills students. Coach Mayfield was recognized for her commitment to junior high students, and Loretta Reddick received accolades for her instrumental role in the district's Pre-K program.​

  • Colorado High School: Suzie Epperson, a one-on-one aide in the special needs program, was named Staff Member of the Month for her unwavering support and compassionate approach. Elliot Williams, teaching Algebra I and II, was honored as Teacher of the Month for his dedication and excellence in teaching.

Campus Updates

Updates from the campuses highlighted various activities and achievements:

  • Colorado Elementary School: The school concluded Read Across America Week, initiated the Book Fair, and scheduled a family engagement STAR Night. Preparations for junior high track meets and Wind Wolf teams aiming to qualify for Worlds were noted. Benchmarks have concluded, with teachers analyzing data to enhance instructional strategies. Additionally, eighth graders are preparing for their transition to high school, and Pre-K students will visit a local nursing home for an Easter Egg Hunt.​

  • Colorado High School: Enrollment stands at 242 students. Interim testing showed progress in Algebra I, U.S. History, and Biology. College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) goals have been met by 87% of seniors. Industry-based certifications have increased, with 23 seniors earning certifications. FCCLA saw 11 of 12 students advancing to state, with one to nationals. Wind Wolf Teams have a team qualified for Worlds in Phoenix. Achievements in welding, powerlifting, art, band, and One Act Play competitions were also highlighted.​

Bond 2024 Update

Gallagher Construction provided updates on Bond 2024 projects:​

  • Baseball and Softball Fields: Approximately 98% complete, with final touches like sound system installation, fencing, and padding pending.​

  • Concession Stand: Construction is complete, awaiting final selections for refrigerator equipment. Improvements include more space and upgraded bathrooms with new epoxy flooring.​

  • CTE Building: Framing is expected to be completed by the end of next week, just before spring break.​

  • Track and Field Events: Have been relocated to the south end of the track and protective covers are being installed for the field pads.​

Additionally, temporary irrigation is in use behind the field for grass growth, with permanent systems to be considered after establishment.​

Financial Overview and Election Matters

The board addressed several key agenda items:​

  1. Financial Overview for Facility Projects: The board discussed and approved the financial overview for facility projects, including the $3.6 million approved balance for upcoming initiatives.​

  2. Certification of Unopposed Candidates: The board certified unopposed candidates for the school board election on May 3, 2025, for places three and seven. Rachel Silver and trustees in the galleries were recognized for their continued leadership, reflecting the community’s confidence in the current board. Consequently, elections for these places were canceled.​

  3. District of Innovation Plan Amendment: An amendment to the CISD District of Innovation Plan was approved, allowing flexibility in the school calendar and teacher workdays. This reduces the required number of instructional days from 187 to 186 or 185, aiming to enhance staff recruitment and retention.​
