❤️This week is FCCLA week so our first CTE program spotlight is FCCLA! FCCLA stands for family, career, and community leaders of America. Members of FCCLA participate in meetings and competitive events! Last week students competed at the Region 1 Conference in Lubbock where they shared their service projects they completed throughout the community! FCCLA provides opportunities for students to travel across the state and even the nation! 10 of the 11 students involved in STAR events are moving on to state in Dallas. This year students are competing to head to the national leadership conference in Denver, Colorado.

🌟Our next CTE spotlight is Denice Bradbury! Mrs. Bradbury says the following about herself and classes: I attended Hardin-Simmons University as an adult and started my teaching career later in life. This is my 16th year in education and I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing! 💻🐷🐓👩🏼‍🌾I teach 2 CTE Classes at CMS: Computer Science, and Principles of Ag in the AFNR pathway. My husband and I own and operate a farm and ranch so being passionate about the Principles of Ag class came natural and it’s easily my favorite to teach! In Principles of Ag, we have learned about the history of agriculture, the struggles of agricultural life, leadership skills, how to properly fill out a job application, how to dress for an interview, how to type up a proper resume, parliamentary procedure for conducting a business meeting, along with all the standard FFA first year things. Many of my students paid dues to join FFA and participated in the fundraisers. We have learned the FFA Motto and Creed, symbols for the emblem, and all things about what wearing the Blue and Gold mean...... the FFA Code of Ethics. We chose a service project for the fall semester and collected warm socks for the nursing home residents. We also made Christmas door decorations for the resident's rooms and distributed them the week before Christmas. Along with learning about FFA, students have been recording their time spent in SAE's for their FFA record books for the future. In October of this year, we participated in Texas Farm Bureau's Jumpstart program. This program reinforced some of the leadership modules we had already covered and more. Students were recognized by TFB with a certificate, a t-shirt, and a key chain for completing their program. All in all we have a lot of fun while learning to be better stewards of the land and the skills it takes to be a leader!

🌟Our first staff spotlight for CTE month is Jennifer Morris! Jennifer teaches Ag classes and is the FFA sponsor. 🐖🐐🐑 Here’s what Miss. Morris has to say about herself and the classes she teaches: I have been teaching 20 years, 17 of those in agriculture. I grew up on a farm and ranch so agriculture is my life. I am a Colorado High graduate. I received my Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Development and a Masters of Education in Agriculture Education from Texas A&M University. I entered this field to help kids know more about the food they eat, the clothes they wear, and how they can become a part of that process. Everything is tied to Agriculture in some way or another so learning and sharing about what it has to offer is both empowering and rewarding! I teach the following classes: Agriculture Food & Natural Resources, Floral & Advanced Floral Design, Horticulture Science, Greenhouse Operations, Landscape Design, Small Animal Management, Equine Science, Livestock Production, Vet Med Applications and Advanced Animal Science. Lastly, FFA is so important to me because it’s a big part as it supports the classroom. Kids involved in FFA may have projects they keep records on, compete in Leadership, Career Development, and Speaking contests. Those students also attend banquets, Conventions, and camps to continue bettering their leadership qualities. Some of the FFA members can run for Chapter, District, Area, and even State or National Officers. It is a big networking family that wears blue corduroy!
